TRIP SNIP: Scotts Landing - Casnell Island, Thursday 27 May 2021

22 WOPpers gathered with Elizabeth at Scotts Landing on a windy but stunning day. As luck would have it, the road maintenance crew was in to do some work which reduced the car parking spots to a minimum. With cars arranged in a creative yet orderly fashion we set off past Scott House. We headed up the hills for views and to give the tide a bit more time to do its thing. Views admired, we were able to walk across to Casnell Island. Up a goat path, we reached our morning tea spot with great views and sun or shade for those that had a preference either way. A bit more bush bashing led us to the top of the island. As they say, what goes up has to come down and so we did. Once we reached the foreshore the circumnavigation of the island was our next task. Crossing the Te Kapa River one more time we made our way up the foreshore of Mahurangi Scenic Reserve. The backpacks lighter after lunch, Elizabeth took us up the steps back to Ridge Road. A little up the road we turned our attention to the other coast at Ngaio Bay. Our route took us along the mangroves, through a reserve and then over some oyster beds back to our starting point.

Fabulous outing with a variety of terrain and landscapes. Thank you, Elizabeth.
