TRIP SNIP: Whites Beach, Anawhata Explorer, Sunday 7 September 2025

Rebecca’s Sunday walk was an adventure through North Piha’s diverse landscapes.  We started on the newly opened Marawhara Track, and it was obvious where the flood waters had ripped the vegetation out, leaving the valley very bare.  It was good to see some restorative planting to help bring this area back to its former glory.

We hiked onto the stunning Anawhata beach, which was very quiet apart from a few families enjoying the sunshine.  Here we discovered that our new Sunday walker was in fact from Manukau Tramping club, not WOPs!  Then it was onto Whites beach via Whites Track, after which we scaled up the rock face using the chain rope to another fabulous coastal lookout - Te Waha Point Lookout.

Altogether a beautiful walk with 3 huge climbs totalling 11kms over 5 ½ hours -what an achievement!
