LEGS
A rather gloomy, damp day greeted the fifteen walkers who braved the weather on Tuesday and headed to Waiheke Island. The sad news of Joyce’s passing came to our attention as we boarded the ferry but we continued on to the island. There we added our numbers to the 50,000 + people who have viewed the exhibition this year.
We enjoyed the walk, the weather wasn’t too miserable and at times rain enhanced the pieces on display while we debated the merits all the various sculptures, installations, creations - call them what you will. We are lucky to have this event included in our programme as it makes for a different experience! At lunch in the event tent some of us collectively voted for Virginia King’s three suspended waka as the piece we liked the best.
Back in the CBD a few of us walked to Queens Wharf and enjoyed checking out the new Michael Parakowhai sculpture - the remarkable, beautifully constructed, Light House - the latest addition to Auckland’s public sculpture collection.
