TRIP SNIP: North Piha, Tuesday 9 February (Take 2)

Our intrepid leader Kay provided an adventurous variation on the North Piha walk.

To begin with we “stepped” our way up the recently renovated White’s Track while enjoying the beautiful nikau grove that flourishes there. After that it was “tramping” for the rest of the day. Instead of walking all the way up to Craw Campground we went off-piste and blazed a trail through doc farmland and swamp while negotiating several gates. Eventually arrived at the end of Anawhata Road where we enjoyed the wonderful outlook over Anawhata Beach. While we were here Kay took a photo opportunity in an enormous tractor for her grandsons. For the return journey we descended down the precipitous Fisherman’s Track to White’s Beach. To cap off the walk we ascended the rocky face at the south end of White’s Beach with the help of ropes. Whew! This was a great start to a new year of tramping.

Unfortunately, one of our WOPpers needed to return early in the walk. Our best wishes to her, and our sincere thanks to Kirsten for accompanying her and waiting with her until transport arrived.

Thank you Kay for a great start to the year.
