Where do you go to walk when Auckland is at Level 4 and you are not able to venture too far from home or go for your usual weekly walks with your friends from WOPs? Something with bush, sea views, steps (we all love steps), hills and not too many people (social distancing). Why not your local golf course? Our local is Pupuke Golf course at Forrest Hill. They opened the course up to locals to walk on during the lockdown and for those of us who hadn’t walked around it before it was a real revelation.
We had been adding it to our walks when we ventured that way and just loved it, such a beautiful place. But the other day we decided to walk it as if we were playing a game of golf - the whole 18 holes. We started at the 6th hole as that was the closest to Kowhai Road where we going to start and finish our course. We walked 6.2km around the course and with the walk from home we walked a total of 11.5km.
We found bush, hills, a bit of mud, sand, steps, birds, a few people to say hello to, a nice chair to stop at for a cup of coffee. We had a fabulous morning and now we are at Level 3 the golfers are back and we probably will not be walking around it again.
