Auckland’s 28 regional parks cover 41,000 hectares of public space. They are valued for their natural and heritage qualities and for the many wonderful experiences they offer us to connect to natural places.
The Regional Parks Management Plan is Auckland Council’s plan that guides the management of these parks to both protect them and to enable people to enjoy the parks. It was last published in 2010. The current review will result in an updated management plan to guide Council over the next 10 years.
Auckland Council has presented a Draft Regional Parks Management Plan and invited submissions on this by 4 March 2022. As WOPs is a frequent user of the regional parks, it was decided that a submission would show our awareness of and interest in the draft plan. The focus of the submission is on areas most relevant to WOPs, namely track development and maintenance.
