Twenty Woppers met at Ambury Regional Park farm car park in Mangere Bridge for a walk along part of the Watercare Coastal Walkway, with Sylvia as leader. We set off along the gravel track along the farm foreshore, then around the Mangere Lagoon loop track, with bush on one side and the lagoon on the other. The far end of this loop took us next to Watercare’s treatment plant where there is a lot of work going on in preparation for the Central Interceptor underground pipeline coming from Grey Lynn to Mangere.
Next we looped back along the foreshore towards the farm, visiting a bird hide viewing platform on the way. We passed Swans and Spoonbills. Ambury Farm has been having volunteer planting days and there has been a lot of new planting recently. We walked alongside farm paddocks to another bird hide out on the point where we stopped for lunch. Here we were surrounded by wide views of Manukau Harbour, Hillsborough, One Tree Hill, the Waitakere Ranges, with Manukau Heads and Awhitu Peninsula in the distance.
After lunch, we continued around the Ambury farm tracks to Kiwi Esplanade. Then inland back to our cars.
Thanks to Sylvia for a lovely walk. Photos by Julie S.
