It's been six years since the tracks making up the Cascade Kauri Park circuit were closed due to kauri dieback, so it is great that they are now open again and back on the walks programme . The area is home to some of the Waitakere's oldest and most precious stands of kauri. It was wonderful (I'd forgotten how wonderful) to be amongst them again, albeit on a well-made boardwalk. It was also pleasing to see the large number of smaller, newer kauri as well as a lot of rimu. The 22 of us, led extremely well by Lesley on her first official walk as a leader, had a great day - perfect weather, good company and stunning scenery. Aren't we lucky!
