TRIP SNIP: Hunuas - Wairoa Dam, 30 July 2024

Thirteen WOPpers met at the Hunuas to walk the Wairoa Loop and Suspension Bridge tracks. While the weather wasn't perfect, and we started off dressed for the cold, layers were taken off as we walked up the hill. The rain stayed away for morning tea, which we had at the lookout seat, but it came back for the second lookout and the walk down to the dam.

We had clear weather at the dam for lunch at two well-placed tables, and then continued on to the Suspension Bridge Loop track, stopping to see what was being done on the Wairoa Cossey track, which goes to Hunua Falls Scenic Reserve. There was nothing obvious showing at the intersection, but a short investigation showed that work is definitely being done to open up the track.

There were lots of wonderful fungi for a few to stop and photograph, and a happy bunch got back to the cars. Many thanks to Jenny B for giving us a fab day out.
