TRIP SNIP: Mahurangi - Te Muri Bay, 14 November 2024

Twenty-four set off with Elizabeth even though rain was brewing. Up and across farmland to a lookout over Saddle Island, down to cross Te Muri stream, a quick look at the cemetery, then morning tea at the far end of Te Muri beach. The rain arrived. Up through the bush we went to another lookout and returned to walk down to Puhoi Cottage. It was a wonderful scene, looking across to Wenderholm.

We had lunch and then went up and back across farmland, and finally down a ridge with most spectacular views out across Sullivan’s Bay to the car park.

Special features: a 22-person tree hug of one of the extremely large pōhutukawa trees, and a live puriri tree hugging a dead puriri tree.
