By the time we arrived at Te Arai Point, the grey clouds had broken up to reveal a blue sky accompanied by a lovely cooling coastal breeze. Our leader today was Rebecca who guided 11 WOPpers plus three friends across this scenic regional park.
The beaches along this coastline have amazing white sand covered with an abundance of beautiful shells. Such a variety of things to see – sweeping views of Pakiri Beach and Mangawhai, wetlands, forest, and regenerating bush. A hillside covered predominantly with pongas was an awesome sight. Our legs were well exercised walking up the sand dunes, trying to avoid the gorse and wild blackberries nipping away at us. It was well worth the drive to walk in such a unique park.
