Nine WOPpers embarked on a tramp from Cosseys Dam to Wairoa Dam in the beautiful Hunua Ranges Regional Park. This is a newly opened route offering a mix of terrains and attractive scenery through lush bush.
The route we took followed a combination of well-maintained tracks and some slightly more challenging sections. The track wound through the forest, with some climbs and descents.
The route eventually led to a junction with the Suspension Bridge Track, which we took down to the Wairoa Dam.
The weather today was pleasant for walking, with clear skies. The tracks were shaded and mostly very dry, although there were a small number of muddy patches in some areas. The bush was alive with the sound of cicadas.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable walk that offered a great mix of scenery and challenges.
