Fifteen WOPpers met at the end of Island Bay Road for part one of our walk: up the hill and through the bush on the newly repaired stairway to Soldiers Bay and Kauri Point.
Then it was back to our cars and a quick drive to Fernglen Gardens, a lovely treasure of beautiful bush tracks through many unique native plantings and tree groves. These gardens are tended by local residents and council.
It was a delight to have long-time WOPper and local resident Rosemary Bold join us. Rosemary is a volunteer and daily walker in the gardens and has a vast knowledge of their history and development.
Thanks, Lesley, for leading us on this most interesting walk.
