Eleven WOPpers met at the Otau Road carpark at Wairoa Dam. Ten WOPpers were ferried around to the Hunua Falls carpark to start the walk on the Massey Track, and one WOPper started at the Wairoa end, met us halfway and then walked back with the group along the Wairoa-Cossey Track.
It was a nice cool day after a night of rain, with the sun popping through the trees. Walking through the native bush was very pleasant, with the occasional late rata flower spotted. We all enjoyed the challenge of an old-style walking track as we tuned off the loop track and negotiated the roots and supplejacks that were plentiful down this part of the track.
A great walk was had by all and we did meet the solo WOPper coming the other way, who suggested our lunch stop – so no WOPpers were left behind!
Thank you, Elizabeth, for leading this interesting walk.
